Music

At Holy Trinity, our music curriculum goals are to inspire creativity and to encourage our children on their musical journeys. We strive to gear the children with a love of music by exposing them to a wide range of music genres and experiences. By listening and discussing different musical styles and having the opportunity to find their voices as singers and performers, the children will leave our school as confident and reflective musicians. 

When teaching music, we ensure that the children have the opportunities to sing, listen, play, perform and evaluate. Children learn musical language in order for them to partake in accurate discussions and express their feelings about certain pieces. Children will learn how music is made, played and will appreciate how music can shape our world. Each class have access to Charanga and can book out a set of 30 glockenspiels when needed. Having opportunities to play instruments allow the children to understand the different principles of creating notes and creating their own musical scores and notation. They learn the 7 inter-related dimensions of music which in turn flourishes their understanding when listening and playing their own songs and music. 

As well as classroom lessons, we have:

• weekly singing assemblies within our key stages. These assemblies are divided into topics such as Harvest, Christmas, Easter (which includes hymns) and a general theme (which includes a variety of modern day songs). 
• weekly 'Feel Good Friday' music during assembly time for the children to dance along to. 
• yearly carol services where the choir visit different locations in our local area such as elderly care homes, Ashton market and the Church.
• yearly EYFS / KS1 Christmas productions which allows the children to sing and dance to the rest of the school and parents / carers. 
• relaxing music played when children are working.
