  2. Year 4

Welcome to Year 4  -  PE will be every Tuesday and Friday

Class Teacher:  Mrs E Douthwaite-Davies
Support Staff:  Mrs A Harrop

Welcome to Year 4! In Year 4, we strive to deliver an engaging curriculum that will excite children and develop their curiosity. Through this curriculum, children will develop a wide range of vocabulary along with reading, writing and oracy skills. They will learn through a range of practical and written tasks and we will provide them with first hand experiences to support their learning wherever possible.

We are always on the playground after school and Mrs Harrop is outside every Thursday morning, so please do not hesitate to speak to one of us on the playground if you need to or make an appointment through the office.

P.E.
Children in Year 4 will be going swimming every Monday morning until the Summer term. They will need to bring their swimming kit in the morning and all jewellery must be removed at home.

On Tuesday, they will have P.E outside. They will need a full P.E kit in school every week. The P.E kit will consist of black shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a red or white plain t-shirt, with or without the school logo. Trainers or pumps are also required. In colder weather, children will still have P.E outside so will need a warm jumper, fleece or hoodie.

Homework

We expect your child to be heard to read their colour book band reading book at least 3 times a week.  They should be listened to read out loud by an adult who then records and signs it in their reading record.

There are additional and linked colour band reading books online on Active Learn, which provides comprehension questions, also.

There will be spellings for them to practise at home every week ready for a test each Monday. They will have activities to complete in their homework book and they can access Spelling Frame at home to help them.

Each week, your child will have a set of number facts or/and times tables to learn for a test every Wednesday.

Encouraging them to spend  a little bit of time each day learning these will really make all the difference. They can use NumBots and TTRockstars to support their rapid recall of these facts.

In the Summer term, Year 4 will have to take a national multiplication test, so it is also essential that your child practises these facts regularly up to 12x12.

Pupil's unique login information for all websites/apps above will be in their reading record.

Your child's reading record is checked every Friday and a label is stuck in with their spelling and number facts scores - you must sign this to show you have seen it and discussed the scores. They will also change their reading books on this day, as long as it has been read all the way through.

 Other Information

Children get fruit for a playtime snack everyday. We ask that you send £1 via Arbor to cover the cost of this.

Class Dojo

In Year 4 we use Class Dojo to share how your child has been doing in school. You will receive a parent login to access this. You will also be able to communicate with me through this or the class email address.
